Harvest Moon has had a shaky start on the Switch, with Harvest Moon: Light of Hope considered by many series fans to be a game not worth its price tag. However, it appears Harvest Moon: One World may be integrating mechanics that have been popular in other farming games like Stardew Valley. These mechanics include the addition of sprinklers to water crops.
In past Harvest Moon and Story of Seasons games, players relied on upgrading a watering can to care for larger numbers of crops. A sprinkler was available in the SNES version of Harvest Moon, but it was set aside in favor of the watering can for the majority of Harvest Moon games. The sprinkler as a tool has become popular thanks to games like Stardew Valley, allowing players to build several different levels of sprinkler progressing in effectiveness as players find better crafting materials.

Sprinklers are part of the Harvest Moon: One World research options included in Doc's Craft Shop, which can be unlocked by filling resource requests issued by Doc. These give players more control over their use of daily energy and save time they can instead spend exploring or expanding their farms.
Harvest Moon: One World Includes Sprinklers To Make Crop Care Easier
There are four different sprinkler options to craft, and each one expands the area that the sprinkler can water. These sprinklers include:
- Small Sprinkler - x1 Silver and x1 Glass
- Sprinkler - x1 Gold and x1 Glass
- Splendid Sprinkler - x1 Platinum and x1 Glass
- Super Sprinkler - x1 Adamantite and x1 Crystal
Harvest Moon: One World isn't the only new game modernizing farm-care mechanics. The upcoming Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town will also include sprinklers, as seen in gameplay trailers on YouTube. These appear to have a greater reach and are designed to encourage players to grow large numbers of crops. The sprinklers also have a cute animation that shows the process of drenching various veggies in the bright sunshine.
While the watering can of past Harvest Moon and Story of Seasons games got the job done, the inclusion of the sprinklers in both new games for the Switch will give players more freedom during gameplay. Fans will no longer be stuck attending to their crops to keep them watered every day, and will be able to instead focus their attention on the other mechanics. Harvest Moon: One World's use of sprinklers is a long-overdue improvement many farming fans will likely welcome to their crop care routine.
