Megan Moroney has been racking up the views on social media through posting covers and original songs like her latest release, “Tennessee Orange.”

After hearing the familiar chorus in a preview clip on TikTok, her new song sparked a theory among her fanbase that she wrote it in response to Conner Smith’s “Orange And White.”

He sings, “Now I got a Georgia girl singing rocky top/ Lining up another Tennessee whiskey shot / Stealing my heart and my Bill Dance hat / Now I’m telling her Athens ain’t getting her back / She pulled me closе and I spun her around / I laughed and said “Girl look at you now” / You’ve been rеd and black for your whole life / Now you’re falling for a boy in orange and white.”

Moroney follows a similar storyline of falling for a boy who’s rooting for the opposing team as she sings, “I met somebody and he’s got blue eyes/ He opens the door and he don’t make me cry / He ain’t from where we’re from but he feels like home / He’s got me doing things I’ve never done / In Georgia they call it a sin / I’m wearing Tennessee Orange for him.”

Fans continued to speculate over social media when Smith commented on Moroney’s post saying “Joint music videos?” to which she responded, “cost effective🤝” Without saying much more, the singers left their audiences wondering if there is any connection between the songs.

“Tennessee Orange” was streamed one million times in just five days, an impressive nod for an independent artist.

“If you’ve listened or supported me in any way, thank you so much. You’re making my dreams come true,” Moroney shared on TikTok.

As Megan Moroney’s name continues to capture the hearts of country music fans, here are five fun facts about the Georgia native.

She Grew Up In A Musical Household

With her dad in a band and brother a guitar player, Moroney got used to having music and instruments all around the house. She followed in their footsteps and participated in her fair share of talent shows and musicals growing up. She even posted herself singing covers on social media, but didn’t necessarily consider that music could become her career one day.

Moroney Is A Graduate Of UGA

When it came time to choose her major, Moroney went with a subject that she enjoyed in high school – accounting. Turns out that wasn’t for her, so she ended up shifting her major and graduated with an emphasis in digital marketing. Once she started getting more involved with her music, she also decided to do the music business program at the University of Georgia.

Her First Major Gig WasOpening For Chase Rice

Jon Langston was hired to headline a charity concert put on by Moroney’s sorority and she was asked to kick off the night by performing a few songs ahead of Langston. After playing about three cover songs, she was sought out by Chase Rice, who was in the audience that night. He asked if she would open up for him the following month at the Georgia Theatre, but he had one condition, she had to perform at least one original song. This was her first time playing a crowd of that size and it made her realize she found her true passion.

She Recently Released An EP

Moroney was more determined than ever to work towards a music career so following graduation, she packed up and moved to Nashville in the midst of 2020. Here, she used her free time to write her debut EP,Pistol Made of Roses, which was produced by Sugarland’s Kristian Bush.

She gained a mentor in Bush through her first internship at the Classic Center in Georgia and reached out to him for some guidance once she moved to Nashville. They started working together and ended up cutting her single, “Wonder.”

“He’s literally one of the most talented guys I’ve ever met,” she said of Bush during an interview onMatt Burrill’s In The Round podcast.

On The Road With Larry Fleet

The Georgia native recently wrapped up her time on the road as a special guest to Jamey Johnson’s tour and beginning Sept. 15, Moroney will join Larry Fleet as direct support on his One For The Road Tour.
