  • Braves' Ian Anderson: Returning to mound

    Rotowire

Anderson (elbow) will pitch in a Florida Complex League game Tuesday, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

Anderson has been working his way back from the Tommy John surgery he underwent in April 2023 and Tuesday's outing will be his first in the recovery process. The right-hander will likely need to build up his workload over a series of weeks, including a multi-start rehab assignment before he'd be able to be activated from the minor-league 60-day injured list, but Tuesday is a welcome sign nonetheless.

  • Braves' Max Fried: Fans six in no-decision

    Rotowire

Fried allowed a run on four hits and three walks over 5.1 innings in a no-decision Monday. He struck out six during the win over Detroit.

Fried worked five scoreless frames until the Tigers finally broke through with a run in the sixth inning. He wasn't very efficient Monday, throwing 60 of 103 pitches for strikes while failing to complete six innings for the second straight outing. Fried dropped his ERA to 3.11 with a 76:27 K:BB through 84 innings. He's currently in line for a tough road matchup with the Yankees this weekend.

  • Braves' Hurston Waldrep: Shut down for week

    Rotowire

Waldrep (elbow) will be shut down from throwing for one week, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Waldrep is dealing with right elbow inflammation and he'll now be forced to take a seat for at least a week before attempting to build his activity back up. He was placed on the 15-day injured list Monday after making his second start of the year Sunday versus the Rays, giving up six runs over 3.1 innings.

  • Braves' Joe Jimenez: Secures first save

    Rotowire

Jimenez struck out one batter in a perfect inning to earn a save over the Tigers on Monday.

Jimenez tossed 10 of 13 pitches for strikes to protect the 2-1 lead and earn his first save of the year. He dropped his season ERA to 2.89 with a 30:10 K:BB through 28 innings. Since yielding four runs in a loss to the Padres on May 20, Jimenez has given up two runs over his last 10 appearances. Raisel Iglesias allowed two runs in a loss to the Rays on Sunday and was likely getting a routine day off Monday.

  • Braves' Ramon Laureano: On bench versus righty

    Rotowire

Laureano is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Tigers.

Though he started in right field for both of the last two games after he was called up from Triple-A Gwinnett following Michael Harris' (hamstring) placement on the 10-day injured list, the right-handed-hitting Laureano could be headed for the short side of a platoon. Atlanta called up Forrest Wall from Triple-A earlier Monday, and he'll get the nod at the corner-outfield spot opposite Adam Duvall while Detroit brings righty Reese Olson to the hill.

  • Braves' Forrest Wall: Drawing start in left field

    Rotowire

Wall will start in left field and bat eighth in Monday's game versus the Tigers.

After receiving a promotion from Triple-A Gwinnett earlier Monday, Wall will immediately enter an Atlanta starting lineup that's been hit hard by injuries recently. The lefty-hitting Wall could end up seeing some regular reps in the outfield against right-handed pitching with Michael Harris (hamstring) recently joining Ronald Acuna (knee) on the injured list.

  • Braves' JR Ritchie: Begins rehab assignment

    Rotowire

Ritchie (elbow) allowed one hit and struck out one over two scoreless innings in his first rehab start Monday in the rookie-level Florida Complex League.

Ritchie appeared in his first game since undergoingTommy John surgery last May. Since being taken with the No. 35 overall pick in the 2022 First-Year Player Draft, the 20-year-old Ritchie has logged just 29.2 innings in the professional ranks. He's posted a 3.34 ERA and 40:8 K:BB during that time and could move his way up prospect lists if he's able to prove his health and regain his pre-surgery velocity and command.

  • Braves' Matt Olson: On base four times in loss

    Rotowire

Olson went 3-for-3 with a walk, a double and two runs scored in Sunday's loss to the Rays.

The first baseman extended his hitting streak to 10 games, and his extra-base hit streak to five games, with another impressive performance. Olson is batting .410 (16-for-39) over that 10-game stretch, pushing his slash line on the season to .261/.342/.471 with 11 homers and 38 RBI in 69 contests.

  • Braves' Austin Riley: Power surge continues

    Rotowire

Riley went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and a second run scored in Sunday's loss to the Rays.

The third baseman erupted out of a slump to homer in three straight games against Tampa Bay, racking up six hits and eight RBI in the three-games weekend series. Even with the power surge, Riley has only six home runs and 28 RBI on the season, but he's topped 30 homers and 90 RBI in each of the past three seasons. The 27-year-old is capable of going on a tear that would have him back on his usual pace before the end of June.

  • Braves' Jarred Kelenic: Goes yard again Sunday

    Rotowire

Kelenic went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Sunday's 8-6 loss to the Rays.

The 24-year-old homered for the second straight game since moving into the leadoff spot. Kelenic has six long balls on the season, but three of them have come in the last seven games, and he's slashing .293/.341/.561 through 44 plate appearances in June.

  • Braves' Raisel Iglesias: Tagged with loss Sunday

    Rotowire

Iglesias (0-1) took the loss Sunday against the Rays, giving up two runs on one hit and one walk in the ninth inning. He struck out three.

Atlanta rallied from a 6-2 deficit to tie the game in the eighth inning, but Iglesias served up a two-run homer to Jose Siri to squander the comeback. It's only the second long ball the veteran closer has allowed this season in 26.2 innings, and Iglesias sports a 2.70 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 20:6 K:BB while converting 18 of 20 save chances.

  • Braves' Daysbel Hernandez: Recalled from Triple-A

    Rotowire

Atlanta recalled Hernandez from Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday.

He will provide Atlanta's bullpen with a fresh relief arm. Hernandez has spun three scoreless innings during his brief time in the big leagues this season.

  • Braves' Forrest Wall: Receives promotion

    Rotowire

Atlanta recalled Wall from Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday.

It's possible the left-handed-hitting Wall could get some regular looks in the outfield if Atlanta prefers to limit Adam Duvall's and Ramon Laureano's exposure to right-handed pitching. If that happens, Wall would make for an interesting deep-league addition in fantasy leagues given his speed, as he's stolen 11 bases this season at Gwinnett and swiped 52 bags in 2023. He's capable of handling all three outfield spots.

  • Braves' J.P. Martinez: Sent back to minors

    Rotowire

Atlanta optioned Martinez to Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday.

Even with Atlanta battling multiple injuries in its outfield, Martinez has hardly played, making just one start and receiving only 10 plate appearances during his three weeks in the majors. Forrest Wall was called up from Gwinnett to replace Martinez on the 26-man active roster.

  • Braves' Hurston Waldrep: Placed on IL with elbow injury

    Rotowire

Atlanta placed Waldrep on the 15-day injured list Monday with right elbow inflammation.

After Waldrep was roughed up his second MLB start in Sunday's 8-6 loss to the Rays, the coaching staff initially informed him that he was being optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett. However, David O'Brien of The Athletic, Waldrep then told team trainers that he was more sore than usual following Sunday's start, and exams revealed inflammation in his elbow. He'll thus stick around with the big club as a member of the injured list for now, but Waldrep will presumably be optioned to Gwinnett once he makes a full recovery from the inflamed elbow. Waldrep allowed 13 runs with a 3:8 K:BB over seven innings in his first two big-league starts.

  • Braves feel power coming back on in time for visit from Tigers

    Stats

  • Braves' Travis d'Arnaud: Goes deep in loss

    Rotowire

d'Arnaud went 2-for-4 with a solo home run Sunday against the Rays.

d'Arnaud's second-inning homer was his sixth of the season but his first since April 22. It was also just the third multi-hit performance for d'Arnaud since late April, a span of 31 games. d'Arnaud has seen his playing time reduced dramatically since the return of Sean Murphy, seeing action in just eight games and collecting 24 at-bats since Murphy's return in late May from an oblique injury.
